West Ham boss Sam Allardyce rubbishes reports linking him with Sunderland job

The Hammer is being targeted to take over from Dick Advocaat in the summer but Allardyce has no plans to leave Upton Park

Allardyce has dismissed suggestions he is welcoming interest from Sunderland.

The West Ham boss is set to be axed at the end of the season after the east Londoners' slump in form over the second half of the season.

Sunderland, themselves fighting the drop, are targeting Big Sam to succeed interim boss Dick Advocaat at the end of the season.

But Allardyce said: “There is only one thing that needs to be sorted out here and that is me sitting down with the owners when they are ready to talk about me being at West Ham and nowhere else.

“Until that is resolved we won’t know which way we are both going forward. That is the only thing that is to be sorted, to sit down and sort it out.”

Allardyce has also insisted he will not stress himself out worrying about his fate at Upton Park.

The Irons board will hold talks with him at the end of the season but they have also sounded out a number of rival bosses in case they are unable - or unwilling - to agree a new deal.

Allardyce had an angioplasty, a procedure which involves inserting a stent to widen a narrowed coronary artery, in 2009. He maintains the heart surgery saved his life - and put the trivia of football into perspective.

He said: “I made the decision to look after myself in general in 2009 after my stent.

“I think after my stent the first thing I said to the specialist is ‘is it time for me to pack this job in?’ he said no, but it is time to make sure you do not stress yourself out as much as you do.

“I see you jumping up and down on the touchline like a lunatic – stop that. Control yourself and you won’t have a problem.”

Who will be the first poster to come up with a witty response regarding the heart surgery?

Can't see Sunderland staying up, and if I was Allardyce I'd just hold out until another PL job crops up, if he does leave.

Same with QPR.

He was saying the other day that his dream job would be managing Man Utd. Probably sat by the phone waiting for the call..

Of course this story, like the ones where players back the manager are stupid. When asked by a reporter he is never going to say he is interested. 1) not while he still has a chance of negotiating a New contract here and 2) not while Sunderlands future is in doubt.

Pointless reporting lapped up by idiots

I'd happily drive the fat cunt to Wearside to sign a contract, if it would sway him in any way. If I had a car, that is.

What I'd do if I was the fat prick, I'd put out a media release tomorrow saying 'Thanks to everyone at WHU, but due to ill health I've decided to retire from football management at seasons end. I've enjoyed my time here and wish West Ham all the best in the future. I will now spend time with my wife and family while I relax and enjoy the fruits of my hard work.

The specialist obviously wasn't a west ham fan

I still think that QPR has the money to attract him. Fernandez might be a bit of a dafty as a boss, but he's better than the idiot at Fulham.

Sunderland is an option if he wants a quiet life. No money and no great ambitions, so the pressure would be relatively low. But I think that Sammy still has ambitions. So he'd rather be here for the next two historic seasons, or at QPR playing with their money.

I'm sure he thinks he can get QPR promoted just as easily as he got us promoted.
